Important Information for 1st Year Admission for Under Graduate Courses:

  • Date of Opening of Online Portal for Application for UG Courses : 18th July , 2022

  • Completion of Application in the Online Portal :5th August,2022

  • Publication of Merit List: 16th August, 2022

  • Completion of Admission at the UG Courses: 15th September, 2022

  • Commencement of 1st Semester Classes: 19th September, 2022

IYD celebrated on 21/06/2022 in the  college playground. Total Participants were more than 400.

Code Of Conduct

Code of Conduct for the Students:

SCOC1: Studtns are required to attend classes at college regularly.

SCOC2: Loitering and possiping in the corridrors is strictly prohibited at the time of classes.

SCOC3: All College dues are to be cleared before filling up forms for each Semester Examinations.

SCOC4: Spitting here and htere and defacing the college building are both striclty prohibited .

SCOC5: Students are required to maintain an academic atmosphere and expected to work hard at contributing to the academic excellence of the college.

SCOC6:Respective Departments will provide teaching plans to the 1st Year Students which shall help them appear for classes with a certian degree of preparation.

SCOC7:Wearing Identity Card is mandatory in the college campus.

SCOC8: Students should attend classes reguarly. Students having attendance below 75% will not be allowed to sit for the final examinations.

SCOC9: Use of computers, laptops and mobiles in the college campus will be strictly for academic purpose only.

SCOC10:Smoking and drinking is strictly prohibited in the college campus.

SCOC11:Students should maintain the cleanliness in the college campus. Use of dustbins should be strictly maintained. 

SCOC12:Students should protect and save the college property, any damage done will bring severe penalty.

SCOC13:Library hours and rules are to be strictly maintained by the students.

SCOC14:The college is a Plastic Free Zone, so, use of plastics is strictly restricted. 

SCOC15:Ragging is strictly punishable and if found guilty may be resticated from the college.

The teachers(including the Principal) and non-teaching employees of the college are governed by the West Bengal College Teachers (Security of Service ) Act, 1975 and the West Bengal Universities and Colleges (Administrations and Regulation)Act, 2017.

The Governing Body of the college is governed by the Stature of the Calcutta University and the West Bengal Universities and Colleges (Administration and Regulation)Act, 2017.

About the College:

When Sundarban Mahavidyalaya was established on 4th August 1965, it was a landmark event for many thousands of students and parents of the Sundarbans and beyond, as the absence of a college in this vast area meant that the dreams of higher education and improved economic conditions were a remote possibility for most children studying in the numerous schools dotting the Sundarban area.

The generous donations of land and money from a group of dedicated people and the moral and emotional support of the people of the Sundarbans and surrounding areas enabled the establishment of this College. It is a collective vision that galvanized the growth of this institution and inspired its staff and governing body to overcome every hurdle, whether economic, geographic or social. It received affiliation with the University of Calcutta and was subsequently recognized by the University Grants Commission.Sundarban Mahavidyalaya began its journey teaching the Bachelors Degree Program for Arts subjects under the aegis of the University of Calcutta.

Over the years, with expansion in infrastructure and space with grants from the UGC, Zilla Parishad and the MPLAD, the scope of programmes offered by the College improved and options and opportunities increased for the students here.

Students can now pursue Honours in all the subjects offered by the Arts, Science and Commerce Departments at our institution. At the same time General Degree Courses are also offered, so that students may be able to choose programmes appropriate to their predilection and career plans.

The motto of this college derives from the clarion call, “Arise , awake…stop not till the goal is reached.” It is our vision to provide the possibility of higher education to the widest cross section of people,
