The Department of Political Science is one of the first few departments with which Sundaraban Mahavidyalaya opened it's door to educations in 1965. At the time of its inception the college offered only the B.A General Degree course in Political Science and in the year 1970 B.A. Honours course in Political Science was started. The Department blossomed into a center of excellence and played a key role in shaping the academic career of many women and men who have succeeded in the various field. The Department advanced with time, and present syllabus covers as per CBCS-2018 format of University of Calcutta. We teach Political theory, Comparative Politics and Government, Government and Politics in India and International Relations, Indian Political Thought, Western Political Thought, Political Sociology, Public Administration as a Core Courses Subject. Moreover various Skill Enhancement Courses and Discipline Specific Elective Courses are covered in syllabus. The Department participate in Youth Parliament Competition, Quiz Contest and Extempore organised by West Bengal Parliamentary Affairs Department in every academic year and secure prizes. The Department encourages student’s participation in Inta College and inter college’s seminar and debates. The Department runs a mini departmental library for the benefit of students and faculty members. The faculty members are Prof. Ruma Das (Head of the Department) Prof. Sanjay Biswas, Prof. Rajib Pramanik, Prof. Surajit Majumdar, Mrs. Anjali Mahapatra and Mr. Animesh Gharami.
