Introduction

Sundarban Mahavidyalaya Central Library prime source of knowledge is undoubtly Institute exhaustive Library. Where, effort has been made to provide students as well as Faculty/Staff Members with all the information they need. The Library plays a vital role in acquisition, organization and dissemination of knowledge to satisfy the Institute's vision. 

The primary mission of the library is to support the educational programmes of the institute by providing physical and intellectual access to information, consistent with the present and anticipated educational functions of the institute.

The secondary mission is to serve as a resource centre for the scholars in the field of Arts, Commerce and Science.

The Reading Room of the Central Library is well equipped having a seating capacity of 40 students and a separate Reading space for Faculty/Staff Members.

The resources of the Central Library stand at more than 25000 volumes of books, a rich collection of reference tools like Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, and Handbooks etc. The Local Collection enriched with books special emphasis on Sundarban Area. Another important section of the library is Career Guidance Section. 50 back-volumes of periodicals and 100 CD ROMs. The Library is subscribing 20 print journals & 03 gift journals (Total 23). 

The fully automated library uses Koha Integrated Library Systems for all the house-keeping operations like acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, etc. A single bar coded Library Membership Card is provided to every user generating through Koha. The entire collection of books, CD ROMs, etc. is bar-coded and all the databases are available on the institute network through Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
